The Second World War is over, the monarchy faces increased scrutiny for being out of touch and the Queen deals with the troubling task of reining in both her restless hubby and rebellious sister. Such is the setting for the second season debut of The Crown, which returns to Netflix on Dec. 8. After racking up a slew of awards and accolades for its first season, the drama sees the Royal Family plunged into the 1950s feeling the post-war hangover, attempting to find their footing amid crises both personal and political. And while viewers might mourn the departure of John Lithgow in his Emmy-winning role as Winston Churchill, they can look forward to the arrival of an equally famous statesman this season – President John F. Kennedy (played by Dexter’s Michael C. Hall), with Bomb Girls star Jodi Balfour by his side as First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
