WHAT IS VAPORIZING?

-

If you intend to inhale cannabis, vaporizing is preferred to smoking because of the health risks associated with exposure to harmful byproducts of combustion (e.g. carbon monoxide, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and tar). Vaporizing also provides a more efficient extraction of

THC and CBD. It involves using a device called a vaporizer to heat dried cannabis without burning it. THC and CBD are released into a vapour to inhale. When you exhale, you’ll see vapour, which is far less dense than smoke and smells different. The cannabis becomes brown but doesn’t turn to ash. Vaporizing isn’t the same as using a vape pen (an electronic cannabis cigarette or e-joint), which may contain toxic solvents such as propylene glycol and glycerol, and carcinogens like formaldehyde and acetaldehyde. Until Health Canada amendments to the Cannabis Act took effect in October 2018, the sale of vape pens containing cannabis extracts was not legal in Canada. If you choose to use a vape pen to manage acute symptoms, please ensure that you purchase one from a Health Canada licensed producer.
