THE MSIG THAILAND ACTION Asia 50 Zero Edition was held on June 4 in Doi Inthanon national Park, on the slopes of the mountain of the same name, the highest peak in Thailand at 2,565m. Supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the trail run aimed to raise funds for tree planting and the construction of a dam to provide a stable water source to local villages of Hmong a nd Karen tribespeople. It was also a test run for a bigger event to follow in December. In this case, only 100 runners took part, with each making a 100% charity donation of US$10. Participants were divided in 50km, 20km and 10km distances, with the middle distance seeing a great performance from Sarah Ady niec from the US. A first time-marathon runner, she finished in an impressive 2:52:09. Local trail enthusiast, Pornmongkol Phoothong, took the Overall Men’s title in the 50km race. “It is a cool event because it provided a chance for us to make donations and support the villagers on the hill. And I will definitely be participating in the race in December,” he said. The first competitive edition of the event is scheduled for December 17, 2017.
