Cruising along the Irrawaddy and Chindwin Rivers, guests will stop at Monywa, home to two of the world’s largest Buddha statues, one reclining and one standing. The town is also well known for its Thanboddhay Pagoda, covered with more than 500,000 images of Buddha. More Buddhist temples come into view in Kalewa, including the 28 whitewashed pagodas that file down from the crest of the green hills towards the water beyond the village of Masein. Most cruises conclude in the majestic city of Bagan where the Chindwin re-joins the mighty Irrawaddy. This was the centre of Myanmar from the 11th- to 13th-century, a period which saw successive monarchs build multitudes of massive stupas and pagodas, many of which still guard the shores of the Irrawaddy today. The all-suite cruise departs on August 11 and is priced from US$2,629 per suite based on two people sharing. For more information, visit www.sanctuaryre
