WORLD EX­PE­DI­TIONS AND AUS­TRALIAN Hi­malayan Foun­da­tion (AHF) are join­ing forces to of­fer AHF sup­port­ers the chance to join Peter Hil­lary – son of the late Ever­est pi­o­neer, Sir Ed­mund Hil­lary – and moun­taineer Si­mon Balder­stone on a cul­tural jour­ney through Dar­jeel­ing, Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan. The 17-day Hi­malayan tra­verse chal­lenge was de­signed to raise funds for the AHF by giv­ing a small group of sup­port­ers a range of ex­pe­ri­ences, in­clud­ing vis­its to the Snow Leop­ard Con­ser­vancy in Leh and to Teacher Train­ing and Qual­ity Ed­u­ca­tion Pro­grammes in Nepal. In Dar­jeel­ing, guests will also meet the fam­ily of Ten­z­ing Nor­gay, Sir Hil­lary’s part­ner on Mt Ever­est in 1953, be­fore the group moves on to Bhutan. With day walks planned through­out, as op­posed to susta i ned trekking ev­ery day, the trip al­lows all lev­els of hiker to ex­pe­ri­ence the c ha ng i ng l a ndsc ape s of the Hi­malayas: from Lada k h ’s a r id va l le ys to the lush foothills of Kanchen­junga – third h i g he s t mounta i n i n the world – in Sikkim, and the mighty peaks of Nepal and Bhutan. T he t r a v e r s e w i l l de­part from Delhi on De­cem­ber 1 and costs AU$11,240, ex­clud­ing in­ter­na­tional f lights. In ad­di­tion, par­tic­i­pants are re­quired to fundraise AU$7,000 per per­son for the AHF’S pro­grammes in ed­u­ca­tion, health and the en­vi­ron­ment.
