MSIG ACTION ASI A DEVELOPMENT programme winner Ng Wai Hei and teammate Hung Ho Fung of ‘TNF Explorers’ grabbed top spot at the Tai Tam Bay Kayak n Run Series event, finishing in 1:36:16. Following the 5km family section, the adult category was flagged off at Tai Tam Tuk for a 4km ocean kayak to Windy Gap and To Tei Wan, then a 6km run to the Dragon’s Back before a final 2km paddle back to Tai Tam Bay. “I think I have performed better at the trail running section than the last time. This is also our second time teaming up for the series, so all went smoother too,” said Ng, the 18-year-old local athlete, who is currently under the programme’s system including stairs, body strength and balance exercises. Only seven minutes later, Team Tiger – formed by power couple British Chris Davis and Swiss Magdalena Cvetkovic – took overall second as well as winning the Mixed team category in 1:43:16. “It was very hot out there and we were leading to the halfway point until we were overtaken by these very fast young gentlemen, Ng Wai Hei and Hung Ho Fung. We are glad to see the young generation doing so well too,” said Cvetkovic. “I enjoyed the first long kayak part and we pulled out a big gap because my partner paddled so strong. We always race so hard in this Action Asia Kayak n Run series that we barely had time to see the nice view around,” added Davis. Chinese coach Cai Ren Gui and Chen Dong Ping as Team 01 came third in 1:49:46.
