A word from your organiser Michael Maddess – Race Director, Action Asia Events

Action Asia - - ASIA -

One of the most divisive figures in the sport in Asia, Maddess has been pivotal to its development, building a pyramid of races in Hong Kong and beyond leading runners from 10-kilometre ‘sprints’ up. Along the way, he has run himself ragged on thousands of kilometres of recce runs all over the region. His recollection of a run on the border of Vietnam/laos is not untypical. “I was given a Vietnamese Army pass with my picture on it – the only way I could get in to the closed area. The soldiers parked their motorbike and went off hunting. I passed a onemetre-high plaque with Vietnamese writing. I thought it was a warning I was getting close to the border, but it was the border. I realised I was in Laos when a soldier jumped out and shoved an AK-47 in my face. I had no ID, but I had that pass. Probably what saved my ass though was the fact I was wearing nothing but spandex pants and a hydration pack.”
