The Beijing Environment Sanitation Engineering Group ( Beijing Huanwei) established a team of model workers to give speeches in the group’s branches in order to study and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The campaign is aimed at promoting the glorious tradition of sanitation workers’ hard work, dedication and innovation and showing the quality of outstanding employees. The model workers shared personal stories at workshops, inspiring and encouraging others to push themselves to achieve more by “learning from the spirit of model workers.”
The group included Beijing model worker Li Guodong, who is also a deputy to the 19th CPC National Congress; national model worker Sun Zhibao; National May 1st Labor Medal winner Cai Fenghui; Capital Labor Medal winner Sun Jianguo; Zhang Xuanzhou, a senior engineer and director at the Group’s Technology Company; and Wen Yingying,
CPC Secretary of the Tian’anmen environmental service centre of the Beijing Machine Sweeping Company.
On July 24, the model worker publicity group arrived at a production workshop in Laoting, Hebei Province. Walking into the spacious and brightly-lit vehicle production workshop, the sanitation vehicles were lined up in impeccable fashion, the sound of metal- on-metal created a lively symphony and welders were working attentively.
On the makeshift stage, the speakers used simple language to tell stories about themselves and their workgroups. The speeches reflected their strong faith, loyalty to the CPC and diligence in serving the people. They also demonstrated their readiness to help and enterprising spirit. The hour-long speeches were punctuated multiple times by rounds of applause. Some workers were truly moved by the stories and even shed tears as the spirit of the model workers became an inspirational and moving invisible force.
Next, the model workers made their way to the group’s solid waste logistics company, Beijing Machine Sweeping Company and other units. One of the speakers, Sun Zhibao, spoke about how modern workers should be as dedicated as Shi Chuanxiang, a model worker in China decades ago. He explained that in the four decades of reform and opening up, sanitation equipment has become much more advanced, but that does not mean that workers should become lazy— the Shi Chuanxiang spirit should not be lost. Wen Yingying said she was proud to be a member of the lecture group. She was moved by the achievements of the other model workers and respected their stamina, perseverance, diligence and pursuit of excellence. “We must tell the stories of sanitation workers well and spread positivity to inspire others," she said.
Zhao Xu, from the Laoting production base, said he was taken back by the presentations of the group’s various role models. He said: “Sun Zhibao is a simple and down-toearth young man who grew up in the countryside but managed to establish his own innovation lab after many years of hard work. I really respect him a lot.” A worker from the technology company explained how he is extremely busy at work every day in the lab and has few opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues. “I was very touched,” he said. Another worker from the group’s service subsidiary said he was very much encouraged by the presentations and will learn from them, work hard and strive to do his best.
Time keeps on moving and the spirit of inheritance is constantly renewing. Model workers will continue to share their stories with even more grassroots units to inspire people to stay true to their goals, work hard and contribute to the building of a beautiful Beijing and a beautiful China.
