PREPARATIONS FOR 2019 WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE YOUTH SYMPOSIUM UNDERWAY
The 2019 World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium is scheduled to be held from April 10–14 in Greece. Preparations are underway.
The symposium’s opening ceremony will be held in Athens on April 10 and will be broadcast live on Internet. The main venue will be at the International Olympic Academy and facilities will be located at the Olympia Site.
The national delegation with the most delegates (Greece, the host country, excluded) will receive the title of “Delegation of Honour.” The delegation should be active in participating in the activities and introduce their home country and cultural heritage to attendees. This year, Costa Rica’s delegation had the most members and will receive the title during the 2019 symposium.
In early spring this year, the First World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium was held in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Junior and senior students from 12 countries took part in the symposium. They were from: Andorra, Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Costa Rica, China, Oman, Norway, Poland and Slovenia. They discussed the development and protection of world cultural heritage. All participants signed a resolution concerning world cultural heritage protection as well. The resolution was issued by UNESCO on May 21, which is Dialogue and Development Day. The symposium was sponsored by the Greece National Commission for UNESCO, Cultural and Sports Department and Government of Ancient Olympia, and received support from the United Nations Regional Information Centre, European Parliament Greece Office and Greece Political Scientists Organisation.
