At the event, Li Ruohong, president of the China World Peace Foundation, mentioned that Castro was a good friend of the Chinese people and Chinese leaders over the past several generations. His achievements and legacy have greatly influenced Cuba and the world.

In her speech, Lisbet Quesada Luna, charge d’affaires of Cuba’s Embassy in Beijing, stated that Castro was one of the greatest revolutionaries in the world, and his achievements have been regarded as the best cause by the world. As a guerrilla, political leader, head of state and wise man, he had a considerable impact on people’s thinking. Luna added that Castro had long called for the pursuit of world peace, the most sacred responsibility of all human beings.

A student from Cuba recited a poem originally written by Cuban hero Antonio Guerrero Rodriguez for Castro’s 80th birthday. A song was performed in his honour as well.
