On September 6, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Beijing held a ceremony to commemorate the Pakistan Defense Day. The holiday honours martyrs of the 1965 war and everyone who has sacrificed themselves for the defence of Pakistan.
The Embassy of the Pakistan held a reception for the occasion. Officials from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including Major General Jiang Qianming; other Chinese Government officials; diplomats from other countries; representatives from media agencies and Pakistanis who live in China attended the event.
The respective national anthems of Pakistan and China were played, and a tribute to the sacrifices that Pakistan’s armed forces, law enforcement agencies and citizens have made was conducted. In his speech, Ambassador of Pakistan to China Masood Khalid stated that Pakistan Defense Day honours Pakistan’s valiant armed forces and their patriotism, discipline and commitment. He mentioned that Pakistan seeks a peaceful and prosperous neighbourhood, which is one of the key principles of Pakistan’s foreign policy, in his remarks.
The ambassador also stressed the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces in fighting against terrorism and its resolve to root it out. He stated that he appreciates the Chinese Government and the PLA for their friendly cooperation.
