On September 21, Vice Governor of Uruguay’s Department of Florida, Guillermo López held a press conference at the Embassy of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Beijing.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Uruguay, Vice Governor Guillermo López led a delegation of entrepreneurs and advisers in the tourism industry and foreign affairs on a trip to China in the hope of further promoting bilateral relations.

Mr. López said: “On this visit, we wanted to learn about the real situation in China, because of its surprising development. After visiting Liaoning and Gansu provinces and Beijing Municipality, we found they are growing at a rapid pace. In addition, we would also like to help more Chinese people learn about the Florida Department. Through our visit to China’s central and western provinces, we saw many opportunities for cooperation between the two sides. Our 15-day trip allowed us to obtain practical results and a clear direction for future development. However, it is not yet enough and we will continue to further develop bilateral cooperation.”

Florida Department enjoys a prime location in the centre of Uruguay and is the gateway to other parts of the country as well as Mercosur (Southern Common Market) countries. The department’s main products are milk, meat, eggs, wool, grains and fodder crops, and it ranks sixth in Uruguay in terms of regional GDP. It accepts a wide range of investment options and provides investors with a favourable environment, through its Investment Promotion Act, free zones, industrial parks and public-private partnership projects.
