Investing in Environmental Protection

Beijing: a Dynamic City

Beijing (English) - - FRONT PAGE - Translated by Wang Wei Edited by David Ball

According to a document issued by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality in early November, between 2019 and 2022, the capital will implement 16 measures covering five major aspects to strengthen the city's environmental protection.

These aspects include improving the compensation mechanism for ecological protection, increasing investment in ecological protection, cultivating the leading functions of the city's ecological conservation zones and upgrading their industrial structures, strengthening the evaluation of government agencies in ecological protection and increasing green development. This means that Beijing will follow a road of “high-quality growth” by focusing on measures such as developing the city's ecological conservation zones into demonstration zones to showcase the city's natural beauty, history and culture; construct a leading-area for ecological civilisation; and create an environment suitable for living, investment and tourism.

Beijingers can already feel the improvements that have been made to the city's ecological environment. The city contains more and more pocket parks, waterside trails and urban micro-landscapes, which reflect the great achievements in the construction of the city's ecological civilisation. Furthering ecological civilisation is a “millennium plan” for the sustainable development of the Chinese nation. For the capital's citizens, developing a beautiful Beijing is an example of putting into practice Chinese President Xi Jinping's concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.”
