Enor­mous ore car­rier com­pleted

A new 400,000-ton mas­sive ore car­rier, ORE TIAN­JIN, man­u­fac­tured by the Wuchang Ship­build­ing In­dus­try Group Cor­po­ra­tion of the China Ship­build­ing In­dus­try Cor­po­ra­tion, was handed over on March22 on the west coast of Qing­dao.

Con­tracted by ICBC Fi­nan­cial Leas­ing, this is a new type of ul­tra-large ore ves­sel that has been tai­lor-made for the Brazil­ian mining gi­ant Com­pan­hia Vale Do Rio Doce and will be used for th e BrazilChina route of iron ore trans­porta­tion.

The ves­sel is 362 me­ters long, 65 me­ters wide, 30.4 me­ters deep, and has a dead weight of 400,000 tons. The cargo ca­pac­ity of the ves­sel equals that of 6,666 train cars. Th e ves­sel is able to sail 25,500 nau­ti­cal miles with­out stop at a speed of 27 kilo­me­ters per hour and thus be able to nav­i­gate be­tween any two ports in the world with­out re­fu­el­ing.
