A waste-sorting pilot project in the Jindu Hangong residential community on Jiyuqiao, Wuchang District, kicked off on March21. A hundred waste-sorting promoters began th eir work at th e same time. According to the Wuhan Municipal Commission for Urban Management, waste sorting will be carried out throughout the city this year after the trials are finished in 811 residential communities.
As one of the waste-sorting communities, the Jindu Hangong community has optimized the locations of dustbins, installed intelligent equipment, including five types of dustbins, eachcolor-coated to be used withfive types of waste products: kitchen waste, recyclable waste, toxic and harmful waste, fabric waste, and miscellaneous garbage.
After residents have put their garbage into the dustbins, community staff members start to work. They scan th e QR code on th e garbage bags and calculate points for each household. When a family has accumulated a certain number of points, they can get daily necessities for free as a reward.
