Wuhan foreign expert wins Friendship Award
Peter Bennett, the general director of technological research and development at the Wuhan Jindun Laser Technology Co., Ltd., through a recommendation by the Wuhan Municipal Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, won the Chinese Government Friendship Award at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on September 29. He is the only foreign expert based in Hubei Province to receive the award this year.
The Friendship Award is the highest honor set by the Chinese government for foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China's modernization, reform and opening-up process. Fifty foreign experts received the award this year. The nomination for the award goes to those foreign experts who have made great contributions to China's economic and social development, played an important role in promoting exchanges and cooperation and personnel training, and made selfless contributions to overcome difficulties in remote or underprivileged regions of China. By the end of last year, a total of
1,549 foreign experts from
70 countries and regions have been honored the Friendship Award by the Chinese government. Among them 20 are based in Wuhan.
Peter Bennett and Liu Dun, a Chinese graduate of Liverpool University in laser technology, came to China to start the Wuhan Jindun Laser Technology Company. The company is committed to the application of ultrafast laser and the improvement of printing-plate making technology to reduce the amount of corrosive waste.
During his stay in Wuhan, Bennett also promoted the establishment of Sino-British Ultrafast Laser Processing R&D Center with Hubei University of Technology, involving the combination of production, education and research. This year, Bennett was selected as one of the most influential foreign experts during 40 years of China's reform and opening up.
