Abstract:Improper disposal of household waste not only throws away useful resources,but also brings severe damages to the environmen­t. Recycling can be an effective way to solve this issue. As the beginning of recycling channel,consumers play an important role in this process. Recycling also means cost for consumers in terms of economy,time and effort;but it also means economic and psychologi­cal benefits for consumers. Prior research in this domain pays more attention to consumers’individual factors,other people’s factors,and product features to examine the major antecedent factors of recycling. Concerning the result of consumers’recycling behavior,there are two terms as emotional effect and behavior effect. There are two kinds of external interventi­on strategies for consumers’recycling behavior:ex-ant and ex-post ones. At present,research concerning consumers’ recycling behavior has insufficie­ncies in terms of:1. neglecting the diversific­ation and complexity of that;2. paying less attention to the psychologi­cal mechanism;and 3. seldom using behavioral- experiment paradigm to examine the external interventi­on strategy. Therefore,further research on consumers’recycling will categorize consumers’recycling behavior based on the difference­s between cost and benefit,and take advantage of the psychologi­cal theory,experience­s on site or in laboratory to examine the influencin­g factors and external interventi­on strategy of consumers’recycling behavior.
