Fastest wind tun­nel to spur space progress

China is build­ing the world’s fastest hy­per­sonic wind tun­nel to help with the de­vel­op­ment of space planes, ac­cord­ing to Xin­hua News Agency. “The 265-me­ter-long tun­nel can be used to test hy­per­sonic air­craft that can travel at speeds of up to Mach 25 (30,620 kilo­me­ters per hour), 25 times the speed of sound,” Xin­hua quoted Han Guilai, a re­searcher with China’s State Key Lab­o­ra­tory of High Tem­per­a­ture Gas Dy­nam­ics of the Chi­nese Academy of Sciences, as say­ing.
