Al­ge­rian satel­lite begins op­er­a­tions

Al­ge­ria’s first com­mu­ni­ca­tions satel­lite, which was de­vel­oped and built by China, was put into full ser­vice this month, ac­cord­ing to China Great Wall In­dus­try Corp, the con­trac­tor. An in-or­bit de­liv­ery cer­e­mony for the Al­com­sat 1 was held at the Al­ge­rian Space Agency’s head­quar­ters in Al­giers ear­lier this month. Al­com­sat 1 was launched in De­cem­ber on a Long March 3B car­rier rocket at the Xichang Satel­lite Launch Cen­ter in Sichuan prov­ince. It is the ninth telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions satel­lite China has ex­ported and the first space co­op­er­a­tion pro­gram be­tween China and Al­ge­ria.
