Finless porpoise survey gets underway
China began a survey on May 21 to determine the number and distribution of endangered finless porpoises in the Bohai and Yellow seas. The survey is a preliminary step in setting up a reserve in the area. The Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences will send a survey ship to the Yellow Sea for 10 days, starting on May 24. The scientists will collect information on the porpoises, along with data on temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen levels and the pH level of the water.
