Reforms map road ahead

-

Since it took office two years ago, the new leadership has drawn a clear blueprint for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through a range of reform measures, says a People’s Daily editorial.

To overcome the slew of challenges that have emerged in the process of the country’s development, ranging from its low per capita income and a widening wealth gap, to the failure of its innovation ability to meet its development demands, the leadership has pressed ahead with a series of sweeping reform measures over the past two years.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in October 2012, the ruling Party under the leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping has laid out ambitious goals, from building a well-off society, deepening overall reforms, to realizing rule of law to promoting governance of the Party itself in a stricter manner. All measures aimed at helping resolve the contradictions that have cropped up in China’s development, thus consolidating the Party’s leadership.

Such a strategic layout is China’s inevitable choice as it switches its focus to systematic, comprehensive and coordinated development after decades of fast economic development. A number of measures the new leadership has taken over the past two years, from an unprecedented crackdown on corruption, to the push for a clean Party and government, to comprehensive measures to promote rule of law, have all helped boost public confidence in the socialist development road with Chinese characteristics.

To effectively follow such a roadmap the key is to stick to “China’s road” and sharpen “China’s advantages” so that the country can make good progress on the way building a well-off society and promoting rule of law.
