China Daily multimedia reporter earns Asian journalism award
China Daily Asia Pacific’s multimedia reporter Marc Lajoie won the Environmental Story of the Year at this year’s Asian Environmental Journalism Awards held in Singapore on Wednesday.
The awards were introduced by the NGO, Singapore Environment Council, which received a record 234 entries for 11 awards this year. It recognizes outstanding journalists who put Asia’s environmental issues at the forefront through “quality reporting, arresting images and compelling facts”.
Lajoie’s multimedia project “Shipping’s Dirty Secrets”, part of China Daily Asia Pacific’s quarterly RedLetter Projects was pub- lished i n May. It closely examines how the fast-growing shipping industry in Asia is lagging behind other places in terms of regulations and how different countries, and also the industry itself, have shunned their obligations in cutting down ship- ping e missions. This is causing serious pollution in the region and taking the lives of tens of thousands of people each year.
The project integrates texts, rich graphics, gravitating videos and interactive media to dissect a complicat- ed and subject in an audience-friendly way. The project is adaptable and can be viewed in both desktop and mobile devices.
