Man threatens to take his own life

A man in Haining attempted to take his own life because he claimed his mother-in-law was forcing him to buy her an apartment he couldn’t afford. The 27-year-old, a migrant worker surnamed Jia, tried to kill himself with a kitchen knife inside a police substation. He told police that his mother-in-law was preventing him from seeing his wife unless he gave the older woman 100,000 yuan ($15,000) to buy an apartment. He said he has two children to support and only 40,000 yuan in savings.
