ID theft victim ‘owes millions’

A victim of identity theft in Shenzhen claims 80 million yuan ($12 million) worth of debt has been run up in his name over the past four years through the illegal use of his ID card. Liu Hanting said a number of creditors, from banks to individuals, have filed lawsuits against him. Two men who used his ID card to spend more than 370,000 yuan on credit cards from a local bank have been detained, but Liu is still being asked to repay other debts and repeatedly brought to court.
