This Day, That Year

-

Editor’s Note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up policy.

On Feb 26, 2008, China Daily Bilingual Mobile Newspaper was launched on China Unicom, with China Daily Mobile News (China Mobile version and China Telecom version) and China Daily PDF editions. With paid subscribers peaking at more than 600,000 since 2010, it was China’s secondlargest mobile newspaper.

To meet the trend of the rapid surge of the internet and social media, print media like China Daily have made various efforts to offer online services.

In 1995, the China Daily website was launched. It has more than 30 subsidiary websites and 300 channels under seven website clusters. Daily page views currently exceed 31 million, with about 60 percent of visitors from overseas.

In September 2009, China Daily released its iPhone application via the App Store, becoming the country’s first print media to provide such a service on that platform.

In April 2010, its iPad application was released via the App Store, and later its Android and Blackberry applications.

In November 2012, China Daily launched its official WeChat account.

Established in June 1981, it launched its Hong Kong edition in 1997, US edition in 2009, European Weekly and Asia Weekly editions in 2010, Africa edition in 2012, Southeast Asia Weekly in 2013 and Canada Weekly in 2014.
