Literature: Book chosen for major Leipzig fair

Xun Xiu Ji (Looking for Embroidery) has been named one of China’s most beautiful books together with 24 other works from 20 publishing houses from across the country. The 25 books will represent China at the annual Most Beautiful Book in the World competitio­n to be held in Leipzig, Germany, next year. The selection process was started in 2003 by the Shanghai News and Press Bureau. Since then, 321 books have been submitted and 19 have won the global title.

L.T. Lam, chairman of Forward Winsome Industries, is one of the pioneers of Hong Kong’s toy industry. He first made yellow duck plastic toys in 1948. In 2015, Lam set up a new company to relaunch his yellow duck family with a mother duck and her three ducklings, and in 2017, the duck family was given a new name, LT Duck. Health: Weight link to depression found

Being overweight can cause depression even when no other health problems exist, according to a study released recently by the University of Exeter. A team led by researcher­s from the university and the University of South Australia, analyzed UK Biobank data from more than 48,000 people with depression and compared them to another group of more than 290,000 people. While it has long been known that depression is more common among the obese, the team concluded that higher body mass index alone can cause depression. The study was published in the Internatio­nal Journal of Epidemiolo­gy.

World: Brazilian breaks surfing record

Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa has officially broken the world record for the biggest wave ever surfed, with his incredible feat at Nazare beach in Portugal being recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. The World Surf League has confirmed the achievemen­t at its Big Wave Awards in Santa Monica, California, with the official height of the wave registered at 24.38 meters.
