St. Regis Beijing fuses art and food in new menu
Danieli's Italian restaurant at the St. Regis Beijing has launched a new menu called Savor Love in Art — inspired by an art exhibition — to cater for the upcoming festival season.
Entitled Love: Intimate, the art exhibition in question is a video art show, held by Today Art Museum and art exhibition operator YT Pictures, at Building No 2 of Today Art Museum, from Nov 24 to Feb 24, 2019.
Among the highlights of the exhibition are valuable videos about four notable female artists — Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovic, Yayoi Kusama and Tracey Emin, making an attempt at probing into the topics of love and intimacy together with visitors.
Based on the art exhibition, the St. Regis Beijing has created a customized four-set menu, put together by its chef Anupam Banerjee, who has previously worked for a Michelinstarred restaurant in Geneva, aiming to match up to customers' lofty expectations of both the delicacies and the art.
Featuring a light and simple taste, the four-set menu begins with the snow fish paupiette, orzo pasta and baby lettuce. The tender texture of the snow fish carries the meaning of first love, which is soft and memorable.
The second dish, golden squash soup with honey chestnut and black truffle, embraces the diners with warm and rich flavors, representing falling in love.
The main course has two alternatives — Australian grain fed beef tenderloin, scamorza quinoa, winter vegetables, and Chianti jus; or slow cooked lamb, taleggio polenta, balsamic vinegar, and shallots.
The medium-rare tenderloin with pink flesh and a juicy flavor suggests that love needs the right timing and the utmost sincerity.
While the lamb is cooked with a gentle heat, emphasizing that love asks for more patience and that couples in love should show each other more understanding.
The dessert Danieli’s classic tiramisu with fresh berries stands for beautiful love, as the tiramisu is also called “take me away”, which originates from a true love story that happened in Italy.
The St. Regis Beijing is a modern luxury hotel that boasts 258 guest rooms, including 102 suites, and is part of US hospitality giant Marriott International.
