Running back Gore eyes switch to boxing

-

Free agent Frank Gore is telling teams looking for a running back that he isn’t interested in playing because he has found a new passion.

And that, according to NFL Network, is boxing.

“I’ve always loved boxing, so that’s what I’ve been doing,” he told the outlet. “And we’re trying to make a fight happen. If we do that, you’ll see me in the ring.”

Gore, 38, has 16,000 career rushing yards, good for third all-time behind NFL legends Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726). He’s played 16 NFL seasons with five teams since the San Francisco 49ers selected him in the third round of the 2005 draft.

Per the report, Gore hired fight agent Malki Kawa, and a “high-profile fight” is under discussion.

Gore has been training for football, too, but at this point isn’t ready to say yes to any interested teams.

“I just fell in love with how hard it is,” Gore said of the obstacles boxing presents.
