Leaders reaffirm friendship
Editor’s note: President Xi Jinping continued his busy schedule on Friday as he held a number of bilateral talks with world leaders attending the 29th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
PRESIDENT XI JINPING:
• China and Brunei are close neighbors facing each other across the sea, friends who can rely on each other and partners for common development. The two sides have set an example for harmonious coexistence and winwin cooperation between countries of different sizes.
• The two sides, which will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership next year, should make joint efforts to build up this relationship and better benefit the two peoples.
• Both nations should maintain communication and exchanges, further align development strategies, move forward with key projects under the Belt and Road Initiative and deepen cooperation in sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, fishery and energy.
• China and Brunei should foster growth engines in cooperation over green development and the digital economy and enable people-to-people exchanges in an orderly manner.
• The communication and coordination between the two sides within frameworks such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and APEC should be bolstered.
• China stands ready to work with Brunei and other ASEAN countries in pushing forward maritime cooperation and the consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.

• Congratulations to Xi on the reelection as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. Brunei believes China will definitely maintain its prosperity and development and attain its strategic targets.
• Brunei firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and is willing to work with China to bring bilateral ties to a higher level.
• The nation welcomes China’s participation in the diversification of its economy and hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the economy, trade, education, sports and national defense.

• China stands ready to conduct closer friendly exchanges at various levels with Chile, step up exchanges in experience of national governance, further align development strategies and promote the high-quality building of the Belt and Road.
• Both nations should deepen pragmatic cooperation in the economy, trade, investment and agriculture and explore new growth engines for cooperation in public health, clean energy and the digital economy.
• It is important to bolster bilateral coordination in multilateral mechanisms including the United Nations and APEC, carry forward the common values of humankind, practice true multilateralism and promote the building of a community with a shared future for APEC and mankind.
CHILE PRESIDENT GABRIEL BORIC:
• Xi has led China to great achievements in development, enabling hundreds of millions of people to shake off poverty and setting an example for developing nations.
• Chile firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and is willing to borrow experience from China on national governance.
• The two sides should deepen cooperation on infrastructure, poverty reduction and the digital economy, and Chile welcomes investment and cooperation with more Chinese companies.
• Chile supports China’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for TransPacific Partnership and the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement, and the nation is willing to step up exchanges with China.
PRESIDENT XI JINPING:
• China considers New Zealand as an important partner and friend. The two sides should draw lessons from past experience and continue to push forward their comprehensive strategic partnership.
• It is natural that the two countries disagree on some issues, but the whole China-New Zealand relationship should not be represented or affected by the disagreements.
• The two countries should deepen exchanges and cooperation in such areas as trade and the economy, science and education, and implement the upgrading protocol of their free trade agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
• The two countries should support local regions and young people to carry out more dialogue and communication so as to strengthen people-to-people friendship.
• The two sides should adhere to the right way forward in economic globalization, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation and jointly address global challenges such as climate change.
• China’s policy toward the Pacific Island countries is always for pursuing peace, seeking development and promoting cooperation.
NEW ZEALAND PRIME MINISTER JACINDA ARDERN:
• New Zealand and China enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. The bilateral relationship has maintained a robust momentum of development despite the impact of the COVID19 pandemic.
• The two sides should take the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations to draw lessons, intensify high-level exchanges and deepen cooperation in fields including trade and the economy, education and climate response.
• China is an important force in promoting the world’s future development and prosperity. New Zealand adheres to the oneChina policy and is committed to enhancing communication and boosting understanding with China.

• China is also willing to work with Papua New Guinea to develop high-quality cooperation on a joint building of the Belt and Road, and expand partnerships in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fishery, infrastructure, construction of special economic zones, disaster prevention and rescue operations, and green development.
• China encourages Chinese companies to invest in Papua New Guinea and increase imports of advantageous products from the island country.
• China adheres to equality, mutual respect, win-win cooperation, openness and inclusiveness in developing friendly relations with the Pacific island countries. It neither targets any third party nor does it take interest in geopolitical competitions.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA PRIME MINISTER JAMES MARAPE:
