Test­ing times ahead for those sit­ting

This year’s gaokao, or na­tional col­lege en­trance exam, will take place from Thurs­day to Satur­day across the coun­try. About 9.8 mil­lion stu­dents will sit the tests which will de­ter­mine whether they can go to col­lege and what col­lege they can at­tend. Bri­tish singer-song­writer Sam Smith will make his Chi­nese de­but with a show in Bei­jing’s Cadil­lac Arena on Oct 25. The Bei­jing con­cert is part of The Thrill of It All World Tour, which be­gan in the United King­dom in March, be­fore mov­ing on to 70 other cities across Europe, North Amer­ica and Asia. Tick­ets for the Bei­jing show will go on sale on Thurs­day. The 26-year-old singer-song­writer re­ceived a Guin­ness World Record when his 2014 de­but al­bum, In the Lonely Hour, re­mained in the top 10 of the Bri­tish Of­fi­cial Al­bums Chart Top for 69 con­sec­u­tive weeks. The 2018 FINA Div­ing World Cup is set to be held from Mon­day to Sun­day in Wuhan, Hubei prov­ince. Divers from 26 coun­tries and re­gions are ex­pected to take part in the on­go­ing World Cup. China will field a strong lineup in the event, in­clud­ing Olympic cham­pi­ons Chen Aisen, Shi Ting­mao, Cao Yuan and other 13 divers from the na­tional div­ing team.
