Do­na­tion to boost teach­ing fa­cil­i­ties

The 2018 Green Panda — Asia En­vi­ron­men­tal Knowl­edge Shar­ing Fo­rum was held on Oct 26 by Ja­pan and China Peace Friendly Con­tact, Reign­wood Group, China Na­tional Build­ing Ma­te­rial Group and Bril­liant Cul­ture Group. The fo­rum in­vited schol­ars, busi­ness rep­re­sen­ta­tives, and NGO of­fi­cials to share their opin­ions on key en­vi­ron­men­tal is­sues, such as garbage dis­posal, green­ing and ur­ban­iza­tion. The fo­rum also an­nounced the estab­lish­ment of a new web­site for panda pro­tec­tion. The launch cer­e­mony for the Yueer Read­ing Pro­gram was held at an el­e­men­tary school in Shangri La in South­west China’s Yun­nan prov­ince on Oct 25. Aimed at pro­mot­ing read­ing in re­mote moun­tain­ous re­gions, where stu­dents have lit­tle ac­cess to the out­side world due to in­ef­fi­cient trans­port sys­tems, the project was co-launched by K. Wah Group chair­man Lui Che-woo has do­nated 200 mil­lion yuan ($28.7 mil­lion) to Ts­inghua Univer­sity to build a new biomed­i­cal sci­ence build­ing. Named Lui Che-woo Build­ing, the project had its sign­ing cer­e­mony on Oct 25 at Ts­inghua. Ac­cord­ing to Lui, the do­na­tion is aimed at of­fer­ing bet­ter re­search and teach­ing fa­cil­i­ties, and fur­ther de­vel­op­ment in phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal and bi­o­log­i­cal sciences as well as other re­lated fields.
