Uni­ver­sal to start work on theme park in Bei­jing

Uni­ver­sal Stu­dios Bei­jing will start con­struc­tion work on its theme park lo­cated in the eastern sub­urb of Tongzhou dis­trict by the end of this year, lo­cal au­thor­ity an­nounced.

Ac­cord­ing to a Bei­jing Daily re­port, the 1,000-acre project will in­clude a theme park, shop­ping cen­ter and ho­tels.

Since Bei­jing’s sub-city cen­ter is lo­cated in the Tongzhou dis­trict, the con­struc­tion of the theme park has drawn wide pub­lic at­ten­tion af­ter the con­struc­tion plan was re­leased in 2015.

Tongzhou dis­trict gov­ern­ment has launched in­vest­ment plans to at­tract cap­i­tal into tourism, cul­tural cre­ation, en­ter­tain­ment in­dus­tries in the area. A se­ries of projects com­bin­ing high-tech and cul­tural in­no­va­tion are un­der dis­cus­sion, ac­cord­ing to the lo­cal gov­ern­ment.

To sup­port the devel­op­ment of the park, work on mu­nic­i­pal fa­cil­i­ties with a to­tal in­vest­ment of $7.6 bil­lion, in­clud­ing 129 projects be­gan in 2016.

In the last two years, work on 66 projects has al­ready started. Fifty projects will start con­struc­tion this year and the rest 13 will start in the fol­low­ing two years.
