The China Shanghai International Arts Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival have agreed to co-commission a new dance by Yang Liping. Yang’s production Rite of Spring will premiere at the Shanghai art festival in October. It will also be showcased at the Edinburgh festival next year. Joanna Baker, managing director of the Edinburgh festival, said that the signing of the memorandum of understanding in Shanghai marked a new partnership between the two festivals. The Edinburgh festival celebrated its 70th anniversary last year. One of the most important art celebrations in the world, the festival features performers from more than 30 countries every year. Musicians such as pianist Lang Lang and singer Shen Yang have participated.
