The world’s big­gest shaft­less Fer­ris wheel, (with­out a hub or spokes) went into op­er­a­tion in Weifang,

Shan­dong prov­ince, on

Wed­nes­day. The wheel, 125 me­ters in di­am­e­ter, has 36 com­part­ments, each able to hold a max­i­mum of 10 peo­ple. It takes about 30 min­utes for the wheel to turn a com­plete cir­cle. Con­struc­tion of the wheel took three years, and more than 5,000 met­ric tons of steel were used for the main struc­ture.
