China’s champs will chomp on chicken

Food safety has always been a concern for China’s sports officials, especially ahead of big events such as the Olympics and the Asian Games.

On Wednesday, as witnessed by Olympic swimming champion Luo Xuejuan, the China Sports Training Center and Shandong’s Fovo Food enterprise signed a contract making the company the official supplier of chicken products for the training center, which has under its umbrella more than 1,200 athletes including world, Olympic and Asian champions who are busy preparing for the Asian Games in August in Indonesia and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Nicknamed ‘The Cradle of World Champions,’ the NSTC boasts 14 national teams, including table tennis, badminton, gymnastics, swimming and diving. Established in 1951, the center has produced 186 Olympic champions and more than 1,200 world champions.
