A closed door can save your life, firefighter says
A former fire department chief in the United States warned parents they could be risking their children’s lives by leaving their doors open at night. While many children like sleeping with their door slightly ajar, ex-fire chief James Felton, from New York state, warned how simply shutting doors could save lives in the event of a house fire. In a viral post on Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department’s social media account, he shared two images of bedroom doors showing the impact of a fire can have depending on whether it is shut or open. The post has since gone viral and has received thousands of shares and comments from across the world.
Tour guide punished for shouting at tourist
A tour guide in Yunnan province has been stripped of his license after a video went viral showing him shouting angrily at a tourist. The video taken on Feb 2 showed the tour guide, surnamed Pu, in a heated exchange with a tourist on a bus in Dali. Local tourism authorities also fined the travel agency that employed Pu 100,000 yuan ($14,800). The incident came as local authorities have taken measures to regulate the tourism industry.
RYB to acquire 70% of Singaporean group
Chinese preschool education services provider RYB Education has agreed to buy 70 percent of a private Singaporean education company for around 125 million yuan ($18.5 million). RYB said that the purchase extends the company’s brands and service offerings to a broader audience. In conjunction with the acquisition, RYB plans to change its name from RYB Education to GEH Education.
