The Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe will perform the comedy, which is based on a famous anecdote from the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Chen Jichang and Su Dongpo were friends and talented and romantic scholars. One day, Su invited Chen to a spring trip with some women. Chen’s wife Liu found out and was so jealous that she locked him up.

Chen was exhausted and fell asleep in the room, dreaming of going to the county court to sue his wife. However, the county magistrate was also the victim of a bullying wife and advised Chen to turn to the God of Land and the King of Hell for justice.

When Chen learned that the King of Hell would sentence his wife to death, he had second thoughts. After he woke up, he was suddenly enlightened, and made his peace with Liu.
