London Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2019 Asia Tour in Shanghai

-

When: March 16-17, 7:30 pm Where: Shanghai Oriental Art Center

The London Philharmonic Orchestra is one of five permanent symphony orchestras in London. It was founded by conductors Thomas Beecham and Malcolm Sargent in 1932 as a rival to the existing London and BBC symphony orchestras.

The founders’ ambition was to build an orchestra the equal of any in Europe or the United States. In 1993, the LPO was appointed resident orchestra of the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank of the Thames, one of London’s major concert venues. The orchestra performs regularly at the Congress Theater and the Brighton Dome, and tours nationally and internationally.

The orchestra has been active in recording studios since its earliest days. It has provided numerous film soundtracks, including Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001—03).
