Peking Opera helps girl, 10, fight cerebral palsy

-

Learning to perform Peking Opera would be difficult for most anyone, as it combines martial arts, dancing and acrobatics. For 10-year-old Sun Ruihan, who was born with cerebral palsy, the challenges have been even bigger. At the age of 4, she was sent by her parents to a traditional opera school in her hometown, Harbin, Heilongjiang province. They hoped the physical training might help fight her condition. The demanding work has not only helped her physically, but has also built her confidence and inspired her to persevere. In May 2017, she won her first gold medal in the provincial Peking Opera competition.
