People: Artist paints using old phones
Desire Koffi often walks through Koumassi, a popular district of Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, to collect old mobile phones. He buys from people for about 87 cents a pair. Back home, the 24-year-old artist dismantles the phones and retrieves the screens and keyboards, which he uses in his paintings. “My No 1 goal is to try, in my own small way, to reduce electronic waste that is found in the streets and in trash bins,” he said.
