Wang Yi Addresses 2022 Symposium on the International Situation and China’s Foreign Relations
On December 25, China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) and the China Foundation for International Studies co-held the Symposium on the International Situation and China’s Foreign Relations in 2022. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, addressed the symposium via video link.
In his speech, Wang Yi stressed the critical role of the outgoing year of 2022 in bridging the past and the future. Around the world, the trends of transformation and turbulence are both evolving continuously and the tendencies toward unity and division are both surging and contending with each other. In China, the 20th CPC National Congress maps out a grand blueprint for building a modern socialist country in all respects and advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts. The Congress also offers China’s solutions to the problems facing all humanity, providing much-needed certainty and stability to a world rocked by changes and turmoil.
Wang reflected on the accomplishments of China’ diplomatic work over the year, which has focused on ensuring the success of the 20th CPC National Congress as the top priority and on building a community with a shared future for mankind as the vision. China has adapted to changes, addressed adversities and broken new ground, conducting major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in an all-round way, and making new contributions to world peace and common development.
Looking to the future, Wang vowed to write a new chapter in Chinese major-country diplomacy in 2023: it will better serve head-of-state diplomacy and central tasks; expand all-round diplomacy in a coordinated manner; continue to look for the widest possible convergence of interests in global governance; actively serve high-quality development and opening-up; build a stronger line of defense to protect China’s national interests; and focus on strengthening the international communication capacity and make China’s voice heard loud and clear.
