Palace of 600 Years, Museum of 95
The Forbidden City is 961 meters long from north to south, and 753 meters wide from east to west, with a total land area of 720,000 square meters and a total architectural area of 170,000 square meters. The magnificent imperial palace of the Ming (13681644) and Qing (16441911) dynasties has weathered 600 springs and autumns so far. On its 600-year “resume,” the Forbidden City has two items: the imperial palace for the first 505 years and the Palace Museum for the last 95 years. From an imperial forbidden area to a public museum, the Forbidden City captures not only the unparalleled beauty of Eastern architecture, but also incomparably rich world cultural heritage.
