At the 2013 Ninth WTO Ministerial Conference in Bali, Indonesia, WTO members concluded negotiations on a historic agreement: the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), which came into force on February 22, 2017, following its ratification by two-thirds of WTO members. The TFA contains provisions to speed up the movement, release and clearance of goods. It also provides for measures to ensure effective cooperation between customs and other competent authorities on trade facilitation and customs compliance issues.
