Worthy Investment for The Future

- KANG CHENYI

As an avid fan of science fiction, I am constantly drawn to the enigmatic wonders of the universe. With its vastness and myriad mysteries, the universe never fails to capture my imagination. It is in the context of this fascination that I reflect on the importance of investing in space exploration - an issue that is deeply meaningful to me.

At its core, space exploration is not just a financial endeavour, but a philosophical quest - a journey into the unknown that propels humanity forward in its quest for knowledge and understanding. It is an investment in our collective future, a testament to our innate curiosity and desire to unravel the mysteries of existence.

Consider, for example, Marx’s principle that qualitative change results from the accumulation of quantity. This principle resonates in the realm of space exploration, where incremental advances in technology and scientific understanding pave the way for monumental discoveries. Just as the evolution of smartphones is the culmination of years of innovation and investment, so too is the progress we are making in exploring the universe.

But amidst the lure of the stars, there is a sobering reality: the staggering cost of space exploration. In a world where poverty and pressing societal needs loom large, it is natural to question the allocation of resources to ventures beyond our own planet.

However, I argue that such a perspective overlooks the inherent value of space exploration not only as a scientific endeavour, but also as a catalyst for progress and innovation. The technologies developed for space exploration often have far-reaching applications that benefit society as a whole, from medical advances to environmental monitoring.

Moreover, the quest for knowledge is a fundamental aspect of human nature - an intrinsic drive that transcends borders and cultures. The quest to understand our place in the universe, to discover the origins of life itself, speaks to something deep within us.

Ultimately, the question of whether space exploration is a worthwhile investment is not just about dollars and cents, but about vision and ambition. It is a reflection of our willingness to embrace the unknown, to push the boundaries of what is possible, and to strive for a future that is greater than the sum of its parts.

As we contemplate the mysteries of the universe, let us also consider the value of investing in space exploration. This investment is not solely for the discoveries, but also for the journey to the discoveries.
