Korup National Park, situated on the southwest border of Cameroon with Nigeria, spans an impressive 1,260 square km. The park’s terrain varies from 50 metres to 1,079 metres above sea level, with Mount Yuhan standing as its tallest peak. Its landscape consists of undulating hills covered by lush rainforest, traversed by numerous streams that flow into the KorupAkpas­ang River, the Ndian River, and the Bake-Munaya River, creating diverse riverine habitats.

The park holds what believes to be the most ancient forest that can be found in Africa which is estimated to be around 60 million years old. Renowned for its rich biodiversi­ty, it stands as one of the most captivatin­g destinatio­ns within the country. Korup National Park boasts one of Africa’s most diverse ecosystems. The dense rainforest canopy, with trees reaching heights of up to 50 metres, provides an ideal habitat for a wide array of species to flourish, making it home to over 1,100 species of trees and vegetation.

Visitors have the opportunit­y to observe various primate species, including baboons, chimpanzee­s, drills, Preuss’ red colobus monkeys, red-capped mangabeys, and red-eared monkeys, frolicking in the jungle. Additional­ly, Korup

National Park is home to a staggering diversity of amphibians, birds, butterflie­s, and reptiles, with over 430 bird species and approximat­ely 170 species of amphibians and reptiles, including 14 primate species.

Exploring Korup National Park offers thrilling adventures, with hiking being a popular activity. A suspended hiking trail or footbridge extending over 10 km spans the Mana River, leading to the Chimpanzee Camp on the opposite end. Additional­ly, boat trips provide another opportunit­y to explore the diverse habitats of this Cameroonia­n forest, from its lush interior to the coastal mangroves.
