FRÉDÉRIC LAGRANGE Photographed “Mongolia,” p. 120
Acclaimed New York–based French photographer Lagrange’s debut photo book is the culmination of a 17-year-long personal project to capture the beauty of Mongolia’s varied landscapes and the people who inhabit them. “I became hooked on Mongolia when I was a kid,” he says. “In 2001, I made my first trip, just to get a glimpse. This was followed by 13 more over the years—month-long excursions during which I captured a country undergoing great change.” The result is Mongolia, a 252-page volume of stunning photographs, just a few of which are showcased in this issue. “I hope the photographs in this book will awaken a curiosity in all who see them. Mongolia has so much to offer the traveler—not only to seekers of beauty, but also to anyone on a spiritual quest who will find in the middle of its vast, majestic landscapes an intense call back to the present moment, something very few places on earth have the power to do.”
