The latest in a flurry of openings for the Six Senses group—with new properties sprouting up in the Himalayan valleys of Bhutan, Singapore’s historic neighborhoods, and on the coastal cliffs of Bali— Six Senses Krabey Island (; villas from US$841) marks the brand’s first foray into Cambodia. Rather than making a bold architectural statement, the resort is decidedly low-key, tucking 40 minimalist pool villas into a densely forested 12-hectare playground offshore from Sihanoukville. There is a small, secluded beach, but that’s hardly the main attraction: two restaurants are complemented by an ice cream parlor, an open-air cinema, an observatory for stargazing, and a jungle fitness circuit to work off the calories. Perhaps the most impressive feature, though, is Six Senses Spa, which offers a suite of Cambodian treatments and an Alchemy Bar where guests can create natural skincare products using local ingredients harvested from the resort’s own organic farm.
