While Eshelby has visited more than 120 countries
while working for Condé Nast Traveller, National
Geographic Traveller, and The Telegraph, she is still drawn to places where few travelers venture. “One trip in particular has stayed with me, and that was a month I spent living among the Ba’aka pygmies deep in the Congo. Ever since then I longed to return to that ‘otherworld’ feeling of the rain forest,” says the English photojournalist. “So when I read that neighboring Gabon’s president was committed to environmental protection—a rarity among African leaders—I decided to go and write a story. Walking close to families of wild elephants plodding along empty white-sand beaches is something I’ll never forget. A close second? Diving into the velvet lake waters at Tsam Tsam, surrounded by towering ancient hardwoods.”
