SCENTS OF PLACE

- —JL

After spending more than six years on a meteoric rise through the ranks of luxury perfume companies such as Penhaligon’s and Kenzo, and another three running his own wholesale business, French perfumer Corentin Hamon acted on a lifelong dream to launch Nomad Noé ( nomadnoe .com), a bespoke line of scented candles inspired by his global travels that “celebrate the nomad within us all.” Hand-poured in Normandy into porcelain vessels crafted in the southern Chinese city of Chaozhou, Nomad Noé’s inaugural collection conjures up five historical figures and destinations spanning four continents. The saffron- and rose-based Visionary points to Esfahan and the Persian monarch Shah Abbas I, while a blend of bamboo, jasmine, and tuberose represents Hangzhou and pioneering Chinese feminist Qiu Jin. Tasmania, Bahia, and London also get their names on candles, tied to lesser-known trailblazers such as British explorer James Holman, who became the first blind person to circumnavigate the globe in 1832.
