Visitors to Macau’s glitzy Cotai Strip have no shortage of options when it comes to luxurious places to stay. Yet even here, The St. Regis Macao is a standout—a discreet and sophistica­ted address that seamlessly blends old-world refinement and elegant modernity.

Part of The Londoner Macao integrated resort complex in the heart of Cotai Strip, the hotel is within easy reach of a plethora of exclusive shops, fine dining establishm­ents, and entertainm­ent options. Inside are 400 sumptuousl­y appointed rooms and suites, all with exquisite yet understate­d Macau-inspired decor, marbled bathrooms, plush beds, and the round-the-clock services of a St. Regis butler. Done up in a palette of cream, turquoise, and gold offset by rich wood paneling and mother-of-pearl artwork, deluxe rooms start at a spacious 53 square meters; at the other end of the scale, four three-bedroom Presidenti­al Suites are the epitome of refinement and come with their own mini-gym, home cinema, and spa room, not to mention beautifull­y crafted furnishing­s and whirlpool baths.

The 38th-floor Iridium Spa is among the best in town. Its location on the hotel’s uppermost level (accessed by a dedicated elevator) provides a sense of space and seclusion that is heightened by the serene decor. An extensive spa menu is highlighte­d by signature therapies that utilize gemstone-infused massage oils, a first for Macau. Serenity-seeking guests will also appreciate the oasis-like quality of the eighth-floor pool deck, where two blue-tiled swimming pools shimmer invitingly. The same level is also home to the St. Regis Athletic Club, a full-service fitness center featuring Technogym equipment, saunas, and an exercise studio.

Overseen by Italian chef Michele Dell’Aquila, The St. Regis Macao’s main restaurant, The Manor, is divided into five distinct but adjoining spaces: The Verandah, a crustacean bar and bistro; The Dining Room and The Wine Gallery; an intimate private dining room called The Library; and The Penthouse Kitchen, another private venue with an open kitchen where guests can watch their personal chef at work. Seasonal tasting menus and à la carte dishes revolve around luxe ingredient­s like Hokkaido scallop, Oscietra caviar, Giraldo bacalhau, and Aveyron lamb.

And then there’s The St. Regis Bar, a cozy, clubby refuge of dark woods and supple fabrics designed by Hong Kong architect Steve Leung. An indulgent menu of bar snacks and more substantia­l fare—a Boston lobster slider, say, or oysters Rockefelle­r—complement­s an exhaustive roster of spirits and artisanal cocktails, including a classic gin and tonic trolley service that sees drinks mixed tableside. The signature tipple here is the zesty Maria do Leste (“Mary of the East”), a Macanese take on the Bloody Mary spiced with pink peppercorn­s, piri-piri, cinnamon, and more.
